Portal is an artist’s publication exploring the porous space between the everyday and the spiritual. The project began in 2020 as an invitation from Arte Passagem and developed over the following years as an ongoing investigation into intuition, sensitivity, perception, and the idea that the spiritual world is not somewhere distant or inaccessible, but something that exists alongside us: here, within and around the body.
The publication is an invitation to slow down and turn attention inward. It speaks to those who experience the world intensely, encouraging a shift in perception: zooming in and out, listening to the body, noticing hidden forms of magic, and making space for what cannot always be rationalized or explained.
The book itself becomes part of this investigation. Rather than simply documenting the research, Portal was conceived as a physical object that could operate as a portal in its own right: something to hold, open, enter, and experience. The tactile qualities of the publication are central to the work, transforming reading into a slower and more intimate encounter.
Each copy of Portal was entirely handmade by me, from the construction of the publication to its final assembly. Only 11 copies were produced, making each one a unique, carefully crafted object. The decision to build the publication by hand was an extension of the project’s intimate and tactile nature: a slow process of making that mirrors the invitation to pause, listen inward, and reconnect with the subtle and often invisible layers of everyday life.
All the copies were produced, each individually handcrafted by me. The limited edition reinforces the intimate nature of the project and its relationship to the handmade, the ritual, and the unique. Each copy becomes both a publication and an individual artifact.
The work was published by Satélite Books and launched in São Paulo at Rasga e Quebra, a publication and artist fair organized by Gengibrão hosted atCozinha Ocupação 9 de Julho and presented in collaboration with Revista Recorte.
Portal was also made available at Printed Matter's Chelsea location in New York, placing the publication within an international context of artist-led publishing and independent printed matter.
For me, Portal is also an exploration of why we continue to make books: as small physical spaces capable of holding thoughts, images, stories, and invisible worlds, and of creating a direct, intimate connection between an artist and a reader.
